A recording of Barron Trump calling British emergency services after witnessing a woman being assaulted over a video call has been played to jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The 19-year-old son of President Donald Trump contacted operators at 2.23am on January 18 last year, having first worked out how to reach emergency services in Britain from the United States.
Prosecutors told the court that defendant Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, had answered a video call from Barron on the woman’s phone. He allegedly showed Barron her face before grabbing her hair, pushing her to the ground and shouting that she was “not worth anything.” The court heard that Rumiantsev then kicked the woman in the stomach as she lay on the floor beside the fridge.
In the 999 recording, Barron told the handler he had received a call from a friend who was being beaten. He described it as “really an emergency” and expressed concern about what might have happened in the eight minutes since the call ended.
The court heard that the call handler reprimanded Barron for not answering questions properly. The college student apologised, saying he had met the woman on social media.
Police attended Rumiantsev’s address in Poplar, east London, in the early hours following two separate 999 calls — one from the alleged victim and one from Barron.
Body-worn camera footage showed the woman telling officers she was friends with Barron Trump. In evidence, she stated: “He helped save my life. That call was like a sign from God at that moment.”
Prosecutors alleged that Rumiantsev, a Russian national, had become jealous of the relationship between Barron and the woman and was enraged after attempting to phone her earlier that evening.
The defendant faces charges of assault, actual bodily harm, two counts of rape, intentional strangulation and perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors said he contacted the woman from police custody by deceiving officers and later sent a letter through a friend asking her to withdraw her statement.
The alleged victim initially withdrew her account but subsequently told police her original statement was true.
Rumiantsev denies all charges. The trial continues.
