Former Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards has announced the birth of her second child, a daughter named Alanis Valentine, following a journey to motherhood marked by profound loss.
The 32-year-old has previously spoken about suffering two miscarriages, including one at 24 weeks when doctors could no longer detect a heartbeat.
Speaking on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, Edwards recalled the moment she learned of the loss: “I remember sobbing. I couldn’t see straight. I was just distraught.”
She described how her body had continued preparing for the baby despite the tragedy, with her milk coming in days afterwards.
Edwards shared news of her daughter’s arrival on Instagram this afternoon, posting a black-and-white photograph showing the newborn resting on her chest while both parents cradled the baby. The caption read simply “Alanis Valentine” alongside a pink heart emoji.
The name may carry particular significance. Edwards performed Alanis Morissette’s You Oughta Know during her original X Factor audition in 2011 and has previously expressed admiration for the Canadian artist.
Former bandmates were among those offering congratulations. Leigh-Anne Pinnock commented “Perfect little angel,” while Jade Thirlwall wrote she could not wait to meet the baby.
Alanis Valentine joins older brother Axel, who turned four last year. Edwards and fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a former England midfielder now playing for Turkish club Besiktas, have been together since 2017 and became engaged during a beach sunset in June 2022.
Edwards announced her pregnancy in September with a video featuring her son kissing her growing bump.
