A man who raped a second woman whilst released on bail awaiting trial for an earlier sex attack has been jailed for an extended 20-year term at Nottingham Crown Court.
Omran Ahmed, 37, from Ilkeston Road in Nottingham, committed his second rape on 20 March 2025 in Forest Fields after being introduced to the victim by a mutual friend. This occurred whilst he was on Crown Court bail facing charges for attacking his first victim.
The second assault came 15 months after Ahmed had raped a woman at a Sneinton address on 20 December 2023, during which he also repeatedly punched her. He was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in addition to the rape charges for this attack.
Ahmed lied to police during three separate interviews across both investigations. When first questioned about the December 2023 attack, he denied any sexual contact with the victim. Confronted months later with DNA evidence proving his involvement, he changed his account, claiming he had been asleep and possessed no memory of the incident.
Despite clear evidence linking him to the second rape in March 2025, Ahmed continued lying through his third police interview. He was subsequently remanded into custody and maintained his innocence until September 2025.
A jury at Nottingham Crown Court found Ahmed guilty of raping both women and the assault charge related to his first victim. The trial heard evidence of the savage nature of the initial attack, which included repeated punching alongside the sexual assault.
Ahmed received his sentence on Friday following the guilty verdicts delivered in September. The extended 20-year sentence means he will serve a custodial period followed by an extended licence period upon release, during which he will remain under supervision and subject to recall to prison if he breaches conditions.
Extended sentences are typically imposed on offenders deemed dangerous, where the court determines an extended period of supervision beyond the standard licence requirements is necessary to protect the public from serious harm.
The case highlights concerns about defendants committing further offences whilst on Crown Court bail, though the conditions under which Ahmed was released have not been disclosed. Crown Court bail for serious sexual offences typically involves strict conditions and regular reporting requirements.
Both victims have been supported through the prosecution process by specialist officers. The investigation involved forensic evidence collection and analysis, which proved crucial in contradicting Ahmed’s initial denials and securing convictions on all charges.
Ahmed will serve a substantial portion of his sentence in custody before becoming eligible for parole consideration. Upon any eventual release, the extended licence period will subject him to ongoing monitoring and restrictions designed to manage risk to public safety.
