A teenager has been charged with murdering a 20-year-old cyber security student who died in hospital after being stabbed in Leicester.
Harper Dennis, 18, from West Drayton, London, will appear in court tomorrow accused of killing Khaleed Oladipo, Leicestershire Police confirmed. The De Montfort University student died on Tuesday night following the fatal chest wound.
Dennis faces murder charges alongside three additional counts relating to offensive weapons. He has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place in connection with Mr Oladipo’s death.
Two further charges of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place have been brought against the 18-year-old, though police stated these are unrelated to the murder investigation.
Mr Oladipo was studying cyber security at De Montfort University in Leicester at the time of his death. The 20-year-old was taken to hospital following the stabbing but died from his injuries on Tuesday night.
Leicestershire Police arrested Dennis in the days following the fatal attack. The force has not disclosed where the stabbing occurred or provided details about the circumstances leading to Mr Oladipo’s death.
The 18-year-old will face magistrates tomorrow on all four charges. Given the severity of the murder allegation, the case is expected to be remanded to crown court for trial.
Dennis will appear before the bench charged with murder, one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place connected to the killing, and two separate counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
The two private place weapon possession charges are being pursued independently of the murder case, indicating they relate to separate incidents or discoveries made during the investigation.
Leicestershire Police continue to investigate the circumstances of Mr Oladipo’s death. Officers have not released a timeline of events or identified witnesses to the fatal stabbing.
De Montfort University has not yet issued a public statement regarding the loss of the student from its cyber security programme. The institution is expected to provide support services to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
